We had 5 NBA games last night, here's a quick recap of the action:
Game 1:
New York Knicks-100
Brooklyn Nets-97
In the battle of the boroughs, the Knicks evened the season series at one game a piece with a come from behind victory Tuesday night.The Knicks, the NBA's number one team in terms of attempts and makes of three point field goals, thrived behind the arc tonight going 14 for 28, including 5 of 7 from the star of this game Carmelo Anthony. Melo had 45 points on the evening and was an impressive 15 of 24 from the field. The Nets tried to throw various defenders at him, but Melo used his vast array of one-on-one moves to create space and knock down his jumpers. The game was decided in the final minute when Jason Kidd hit a three point field goal to give the Knicks a 100-97 advantage, in what ended up being the final score. Kidd was actually fouled on the three, but he missed the free throw giving the Nets a chance to tie, but both Gerald Wallace and Deron Williams missed their attempts. The Nets are now losers of their past 5 ball games. If the Nets are going to win, they need more from Deron Williams, who did have 18 points and 10 assists, but was only 6 of 16 from the floor. The bright spots for the Nets were Andray Blatche scoring 23 and Reggie Evans collecting 18 rebounds. The Nets will hope to get back onto the winning track tomorrow against the lowly Raptors in another divisional game.
Game 2:
LA Lakers-94
Cleveland Cavaliers-100
After missing the previous 11 games, Kyrie Irving wasted no time in reassuring the his teammates he was back to 100%. The second year guard scored 28 points, dished out 11 dimes and ripped down 6 boards to lead his team to a victory over the struggling Lake Show. CJ Miles also had 28 for the Cavs including 5 three pointers and Anderson Varejao continued his stellar play with a 20 point, 9 rebound effort. Kobe Bryant was his usual dominant self, dropping 42 points on 16 of 28 shooting in a losing effort. No one else on the Lakers shot over 50%. Dwight Howard managed 19 points and 20 rebounds, but was only 3 of 9 from the field. The Cavs lead by 15 at halftime, but watched as the Lakers cut the lead down to 6 heading into the 4th, however both teams scored 32 points in the final frame leading to the eventual 6 point win. The Lakers committed 18 turnovers and looked sloppy in this one. Coach D'Antoni needs to turn this thing around in a hurry or he may lose this team.
Game 3:
Denver Nuggets-101
Detroit Pistons-94
The Pistons got off to a fast start in this one, jumping our to a 21-4 lead in the first quarter however it was all down hill form there. The Nuggets used a balanced effort, with players in double figures led by Ty Lawson with 26. The Pistons were led by Brandon Knight who had 20. The Nuggets used an impressive second quarter to jump out to the lead. They Outscored the Pistons 31-17 in the second quarter. For Detroit fans the highlight of the game was probably Naughty by Nature performing at half time.
Game 4:
Washington Wizards-77
New Orleans Hornets-70
Washington won their third game of the year in comeback fashion. Trailing by 4 entering the 4th, they outscored the Hornets by 11 in the fourth led by Jordan Crawford's 26 points, spoiling the return of Anthony Davis for the Hornets. In his return, Davis had a solid outing with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks, but his team struggled overall from the field. shooting only 32.5%. A real stinker for both clubs offensively, the Wizards won this duel of missed jump shots. Austin Rivers continued his recent of trend of an uptick in efficiency shooting 5 of 8 from the field. Unfortunately, he has a long way to go in making his season shooting percentage look more impressive as its still at a lowly 31%.
Game 5:
LA Clippers-94
Chicago Bulls-89
Paced by Blake Griffin's 22 points and 10 rebounds, the Clippers won in Chicago and stretched there Pacific lead to a game and half. The Bulls got a good effort from Carlos Boozer, who had game highs of 24 points and 13 rebounds. Luol Deng struggled during this one shooting 3 of 14. While the game was close throughout, it was clear the bulls lacked a true point guard. There was also some lackadaisical rebounding by the bulls front-court as well leading to two monster put-back dunks by DeAndre Jordan. Derek Rose cannot come back soon enough for the Bulls, and the good news there is he was out taking jump shots before the game.
